Family owned.

Family run.

The Wynyard Bus Lines management team have a combined 70+ years experience in the bus and coach industry.

The family owned and operated business has seen outstanding growth in it’s 17 years of operation. With humble beginnings in the North West of Tasmania with 14 school buses, John and Sue Sherman grew the business to become one of Tasmania’s largest coach operators.

Today, the day-to-day business is run by our female-led operations team providing state wide service across multiple locations.

From Melbourne to Wynyard

History

After more than a decade as National Operations manager for one of Australia’s largest privately owned coach companies, John and his family took the leap to begin their own operation in Tasmania’s North West.

Owners John and Sue have expanded their business across the state into Hobart and Tasmania’s south as well as interstate to the Northern Territory. Previously operating as Grand Touring Coaches in Hobart & the Northern Territory, the business has continued to grow and expand under the Wynyard Bus Lines name with operations continuing in Tasmania.

John and Sue along with their children Jordyn and Campbell and daughter in-law Abi have a combined 75+ years experience in the bus & coach industry, making them one of the states most knowledgeable charter operators.

Now operating coach number 113, there are no signs of this family owned business slowing down!

The Drivers

“I was offered a position during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. The role initially involved a mix of charter work and some school bus duties. What began as a temporary role soon unfolded into something much more meaningful.

The company, primarily tied to the seasonal cruise ship industry at the time, has since evolved significantly. While cruise season still marks a busy period, there’s now a strong focus on charter services throughout the year, including the quieter winter months. I’ve watched—and been part of—a business growing steadily, not just in scope but in professionalism.

One of the most exciting aspects has been the investment in new vehicles and the ongoing upgrades to the coach fleet. I’ve had the opportunity to operate some of the latest models, and it’s been rewarding to see the standard of transport continually rise.

Looking ahead, the company shows no signs of slowing down. Expansion across Tasmania is well underway, and with it comes a renewed sense of job security and pride. The working conditions and pay are excellent, and I feel genuinely valued in what I do. It’s been a fulfilling journey so far—and I look forward to the road ahead.”
